April Maxey is a San Antonio, Texas native who graduated from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY with a BFA in Film/Video. Her writing & directing credits include Girl Scouting, Polaroid Girl, This Is You And Me, & After You Left.

Her shorts have collectively screened at over 60 festivals across 14 countries and won 7 awards internationally, such as the 100Autori Award for Best Screenplay at the Sicilia Queer Film Fest in Italy, and Best International Narrative Short at Kashish Mumbai Queer Film Festival in India for her 2012 short Polaroid Girl. April was also a guest writer/director on the lesbian web series Same Same. Her episodes premiered at Newfest in 2016. April is attached as director for Carmen LoBue’s queer pilot, Koi, and as a writer director team April and Carmen were selected as a semi-finalist for the Sundance Youtube New Voices Lab.

April was selected as 1 of 9 directors to participate in the prestigious Berlinale Talents Short Film Station at the Berlinale International Film Festival in 2015, to develop the screenplay for her project This Is You And Me. Her recent screenplay Work, a one hour drama pilot, was a semi-finalist for the 2019 Outfest Screenwriting Lab, as well as a finalist for the 2019 New Orleans Film Festival Screenplay Competition. Her most recent short film, After You Left, has been selected at 11 festivals so far in 2019, such as Palm Springs Int’l Shortfest, Outfest Fusion, Newfest, and HollyShorts Film Festival.

April also works as a freelance director of photography and editor, on branded content, short doc content, music videos, and more. April and Max Skaff co-founded their production company 422LUXE in 2016.
